The Last Cast: The Life
& Art of NORMAN
ALFRED BROWNE

A feature documentary currently in development

Norman Alfred Browne was an artist, biological illustrator, educator, conservationist, and lifelong fly fisherman whose work was exhibited and sold across the United States.

Today, much of that work is unaccounted for.

His grandson, filmmaker & Co-Founder of SFN Productions, Brey Browne, has spent the past year trying to locate and document the artwork Norman left behind while retracing the life, places, and experiences that shaped him.

More than 50 pieces have already been located. Hundreds may still be out there.

HELP US FIND NORMAN’S ARTWORK

Norman spent decades creating artwork inspired by the natural world, including fish and wildlife paintings, landscapes, drawings, biological illustrations, botanical work, and abstract pieces.

His work was sold through galleries, private collectors, friends, and international print distribution.

Over time, much of it disappeared from public view.

We believe many pieces are still hanging in homes, stored in family collections, or sitting unidentified in estates, galleries, offices, and other private spaces.

If you own a piece by Norman Browne, studied under him, worked with him, purchased artwork from him, or have any information about where his work may have ended up, we would love to hear from you.

50 FOUND.

HUNDREDS STILL OUT THERE.

WHO WAS NORMAN BROWNE?

Norman Alfred Browne (1935–2012) was an award-winning American artist, biological illustrator, and professor whose career bridged fine art and natural science.

He spent 26 years teaching at the University of Texas–Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, where he established the Biological Illustration program. His love of nature, fly fishing, and the outdoors became central to both his work and his life.

ABOUT THE FILM

Brey grew up watching his grandfather paint, exploring nature with him, and hearing stories about the rivers and landscapes that inspired his work.

Years after Norman’s death, Brey began searching for the artwork that had scattered across the country.

Now, Brey and his father Eric are setting out to retrace Norman’s life, meet the people who knew him, locate as much of his artwork as possible, and revisit the places that shaped him.

What begins as a search for missing art becomes a story about family, memory, nature, fathers and sons, and what gets passed from one generation to the next.

The project is currently being developed as an 80–90 minute feature documentary.

HELP US CONTINUE THE SEARCH

The documentary is currently in development, and we are seeking funding and partnerships to help support travel, production, archival research, post-production, and the continued search for Norman’s artwork.

We are especially interested in connecting with individuals, organizations, and brands working in:

Art · Conservation · Fly Fishing · Outdoor Recreation · Wildlife · Documentary Film
